Debbie Moore is a mother, violinist, saxophonist, writer, teacher, small business owner: natural herbal products/remedies, furniture and handicraft refurbishing/repurposing, who is a new to the Twin Cities music scene. Debbie her up in Waukegan, IL, by way of Chicago, where she fell in love with music at the age of nine after receiving a keyboard as a Christmas gift. At age 11, she fell in love with the violin. Writing soon followed, and her poetry has been featured in literary journals and a poetry anthology. At age 16, Debbie learned to play alto-saxophone and joined her high school band in addition to playing violin with her high school orchestra. During her middle and high school years, she performed with various orchestras and bands including The Waukegan High School Orchestra, Marching Band, Jazz Band, and Contest Band, Strolling Strings, and The Waukegan Symphony Orchestra. While in college, Debbie studied violin privately and performed alto-saxophone with the UW-Parkside Symphonic Band, spending a semester of that time playing bari-saxophone.
After years of putting music on hold, starting a family, filling journals with poetry and business plans, and moving to Minneapolis, her passion for music and creativity has been reignited. In late 2017, Debbie reintroduced herself by playing violin at open mics, The Capri Theater, posting videos online of cover songs from various genres, and teaching violin lessons at the David Billingsley School of Music and Art. In 2018, Debbie has performed at The Ordway Center for the Performing Arts, The Guthrie Theater, The Capri Theater, open mics, local shows, and Street Shows on Hennepin. She started learning cello, piano, and picked up her alto-sax again. During the summer of 2018, Jazz Keyboardist Wenso Ashby invited Debbie to play violin with his group at Bella Luna Studios, Lake Harriet Bandshell, professional, promotional, and fundraiser events, parties, wedding receptions, and she is featured on his latest album, Artistry II - Reloaded.
Debbie embraces not limiting herself artistically, and plays music genres including neo-soul, classical, R&B, edm, country, trip-hop, and jazz. One of her long term goals as a musician is to compose. She is currently in the beginning stages of planning her first album, and on it will be playing violin, sax, cello, and keyboard.
